This specially designed half-day Copyright Fundamentals course introduces copyright and copyright licensing within the contexts of library and information services. It provides a practical and interactive overview of the key concepts for those working with, supplying or reproducing information resources.

This course is aimed at those who require a basic understanding of the core principles underpinning copyright and licensing in their day-to-day work.

  • Identify authorship, ownership, and duration of copyright in different contexts
  • Recognise exceptions to copyright most relevant to librarians and information professionals

Meet your Trainer, Sean Waterman

Sean has three decades of experience in copyright and licensing. He began his career in 1994 at News International as a researcher working in the Times Newspaper Picture Library. He later became the digital library manager for the Picture Desk Ltd, one of the UK’s first online commercial image licensing services. From 2006 – 2022, he was the Picture Library Manager for the Museum of London where he also managed the museum’s photographers and provided support and advice across the museum on copyright and IP issues.

Sean joined Naomi Korn Associates in 2023 as Head of Intellectual Property. He supports their clients to navigate the complexities of copyright, Intellectual Property (IP) and Licensing. He helps them to understand their copyright obligations, optimise their IP assets and manage risk through making informed decisions. Sean delivers bespoke copyright training and mentoring programmes to up-skill clients and build their confidence, supporting them to deliver an effective and improved rights management service.
