Critical appraisal is an essential skill in evidence-based practice, helping healthcare professionals assess the quality, reliability and relevance of research findings.

In this interactive session, we will:
  • introduce the basic principles of critical appraisal,
  • explore different study designs,
  • identify common types of bias that may affect research findings,
  • learn where to access and how to use established critical appraisal tools.

To practice our new-found skills, attendees will then have the chance to critically appraise a paper from the BMJ, to assess whether recipes from The Great British Bake Off could be good for your health. The session aims to support promoting informed clinical decision-making and safe, effective, evidence-based practice.

Presenters:

Mandeep Heer and Keri Bramford-Hale, Clinical Evidence Based Information Specialists, University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust
