Join us for the Knowledge Café: How AI is Working with Knowledge and Information Management!

Hosted by: June Huang, Andie Dimitriadou, Andrew Cox, and Gladys Kemboi for the CILIP Knowledge and Information Management Group

AI is rapidly evolving, bringing both exciting opportunities and new challenges for those working in knowledge and information management (K&IM). As organisations increasingly embrace AI-driven tools and services, K&IM professionals have a crucial role to play in ensuring that knowledge and information are managed responsibly, effectively, and with people at the centre.

AI is already changing how we capture, organise, search for, and use information — from smarter search and automated tagging to AI-assisted content creation. But what does this look like in practice, and what does it mean for how we manage knowledge day to day? How do we ensure that information remains accurate, findable, trustworthy, and useful in an increasingly AI-powered world?

Andrew Cox will open the session with a short introduction to frame the topic and spark discussion, drawing on his experience and perspectives on AI and knowledge management. We’ll then explore the topic through an informal and interactive Knowledge Café, creating space for participants to share experiences, ask questions, exchange ideas, and learn from one another.

As AI continues to advance, no single organisation or professional has all the answers. By sharing our experiences and learning together, the K&IM community can help ensure that AI is developed and used in ways that strengthen knowledge practices, support effective information management, and keep human judgement, expertise, and values at the heart of decision-making.

What to Expect

A short opening from Andrew Cox to introduce the topic and get the conversation started. Open conversation and discussion — bring your questions, experiences, ideas, and opinions. A relaxed, informal format — no lengthy presentations or pressure to be an AI expert; just good conversation and shared learning over a virtual (or real!) coffee.

An opportunity to explore practical questions around AI adoption, including smarter search, automated tagging, AI-assisted content creation, and maintaining the accuracy, findability, and trustworthiness of information.

Why Should You Attend?

Whether you’re already experimenting with AI tools, actively implementing AI solutions, or are simply curious about what AI means for knowledge work, this Knowledge Café is an opportunity to connect with peers, learn from others’ experiences, and contribute to a meaningful conversation about the future of AI in K&IM.

Together, we’ll explore how the K&IM community can shape and influence AI adoption by taking a “human in the lead” approach and ensuring that “human in the loop” principles are firmly embedded in AI development and deployment.

No prior AI expertise is needed — just bring your curiosity, questions, and experiences.
Join us to share experiences, exchange ideas, and help shape the future of AI-enabled knowledge and information management. Grab a coffee and join the conversation!

A Teams meeting joining link will be shared on October 12th, the day before the event.
