A transatlantic dialogue for UK and US librarians on protecting the freedom to read for Banned Books Week UK.
Ahead of Banned Books Week UK (4-10 October 2026), Index on Censorship and Pan Macmillan bring together leading voices from publishing and free expression for a timely transatlantic conversation on the future of the freedom to read.
Rather than looking back, this conversation asks a more urgent question: what will the next five years demand of us, and how can we prepare?
Designed primarily for librarians, the session will bridge the gap between US and UK experiences, offering a proactive roadmap for challenging censorship and protecting diverse collections. While book censorship is often framed as a North American crisis, this session serves as both a strategic warning and a tactical guide for the UK.
